NTxSI Fall 2024 Counselor Semiconductor Experience
The North Texas Semiconductor Institute hosted area high school counselors at our Counselor Semiconductor Experience on December 16, 2024. Counselors from Garland, Allen, Dallas, Wylie, Sherman, Rockwall, Arlington, and Prosper ISDs joined us at The University of Texas at Dallas for a workshop on the semiconductor industry. They learned about how chips are in all our electronic devices, how they are fabricated on wafers, why we wear white suits, and the explosive growth of the industry. Our industrial partners from Coherent, Texas Instruments, Qorvo, and Air Liquide gave them an introduction to their companies and discussed potential jobs for their students. Then our community college partners Dallas College, Collin College, and Texas State Technical College discussed their programs that can train the students for those high-paying jobs.

BEST of Texas Robotics Competition
The North Texas Semiconductor Institute brought Chippy the Semiconductor Worker to the 2024 BEST of Texas Robotics Competition to help to convince the brilliant and curious student competitors to consider a career in semiconductors. Students played a yield game, entered a smock competition, learned how we make chips on wafers and discovered the exciting job opportunities emerging as the industry explosively expands.

NTxSI 2024 Teacher Summer Experience
The North Texas Semiconductor Institute (NTxSI) hosted a week-long ‘hands-on’ interactive session with teachers from 5 school districts across North Texas including Garland, Richardson, Arlington, Dallas, and Carrollton-Farmers Branch. The teachers got a window tour of the Richardson fab at Texas Instruments and visited the training lab and used the SEM tools at Hitachi High-Tech America. SEMI Foundation presented its educational resources and distributed semiconductor education kits. The program included an overview of semiconductor processing, design, characterization, testing, and a visit to Richardson IQ to play a semiconductor mod to Minecraft. The teachers learned about the workforce opportunities to share with their students as we continue to invest and bridge the talent gap in the semiconductor industry.

Workshop for North Texas Semiconductor Workforce Development
In response to the rapidly and ever-growing demand for microelectronics and related systems in North Texas, the University of Texas at Dallas has created a semiconductor workforce development task force within the newly formed North Texas Semiconductor Institute (NTxSI). We hosted a one-day workshop on Wednesday, December 7 at the University of Texas at Dallas. The Workshop for North Texas Semiconductor Workforce Development included leaders from government, industry, and academia. This workforce development (WFD) workshop has helped us understand future North Texas workforce needs, review examples of WFD approaches throughout Texas and the nation, and discuss how we can build the workforce in North Texas and beyond.
Read more on the Workforce Development (WFD) workshop agenda.
